Running to Semi-State

It was cool and clear the morning when the Girls’ Cross Country Team stepped onto the Regionals course at Greensburg. After finishing their final run-out, the girls lined up and readied themselves for the race ahead.

“The girls’ team had a remarkable improvement over last year and accomplished tremendous goals this season. They exceeded expectations throughout the state tournament with each running their best race of the year at regionals to become the first girls’ team to advance to semi-state since the late 1980s,” Coach Adam Hook said.
Each member of the girls’ team would finish with either a season or career personal record time; however, they didn’t have any idea they’d be the first Mooresville girls’ cross country to advance to semi-state in 26 years.
“It’s a huge accomplishment [that the girls’ team advanced to semi-state] and they worked hard for it,” senior Michael Passmore said.
The varsity team’s lead runner, freshman Megan Phillips, broke the school record again running a time of 19:46. Before this season, the record was set by Kailyn Baker in 2008 with a 5K time of 20:08.

“I hope we make it to semi-state and to mostly to run in the 19s next year,” freshman Megan Phillips.
Since the varsity team will only be losing one senior, the girls’ cross country team hopes to make it to semi-state again next year.
